Israel to Import Eggs from Romania to Bolster Supply
Israel approves egg imports from Romania to boost food security and meet demand, adding to Ukraine, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, Portugal, and Spain.
Jerusalem, 30 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is increasing the possible sources of import for eggs to Israel, and has approved the opening of the import of eggs from Romania. According to the Ministry, this was done in order to strengthen the food security of the residents of the State of Israel and enable the completion of local production for Israeli demand.
The move was made after the veterinary services in the ministry completed the examination process, and determined that the veterinary conditions required for the import of eggs from the country are met. Romania joins the list of countries from which eggs can be imported to Israel, including: Ukraine, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, Portugal and Spain.
According to the estimates of the professional elements in the ministry, with the completion of the processes with the authorities in Romania and the completion of the logistical preparations, importers will soon be able to begin importing eggs from Romania, thus addressing the gaps between local production and Israeli consumption.
The ministry said that opening imports from Romania, which is a country geographically close to Israel, reduces dependence on more distant destinations and allows for greater operational flexibility while preparing for any scenario.
Since the beginning of the year, about 200 million table eggs have been imported into Israel, and at the same time, the ministry opened quotas for the import of about 15 million additional eggs. Data from the Poultry Council indicate that Israelis consume about 250 eggs annually, and an average of about 21 eggs per month.
