Jerusalem, 24 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Highway 6, Israel’s only private and toll highway, will soon reach Dimona, located about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Be’er Sheva. The extension of the highway, which currently ends at Be’er Sheva, comes as part of a 750 million Shekel project.
Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Miri Regev, has instructed the Cross-Israel Company to begin immediate construction of the extension of Highway 6 southward, from the Shoket Interchange to the Nevatim Intersection, in a historic move that will connect Dimona and the southern periphery to the central transportation artery of the State of Israel. This after the project was delayed for years due to difficulties in signing expropriation agreements along the route.
The extension of the road to the Nevatim Intersection (Route 25) includes the addition of a two-lane, two-lane expressway, approximately 12 kilometers long, and the construction of the Shoket Darom Interchange, which will connect Route 6 with Route 60 and Route 25 via the Nevatim Intersection. The new road will provide more convenient and faster access to the southern industrial area of Be’er Sheba and other neighborhoods in the city, will facilitate the arrival of soldiers to the Negev bases, and will significantly improve access to the city of Dimona.
