Jerusalem, 21 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Starting in the upcoming school year, Israeli students in the government education system will embark on educational-experiential journeys following the heroes of the Bible, as part of the “Roots” program led by Education Minister Yoav Kisch (Likud) to “strengthen the Jewish and Zionist identity of Israeli students.”
“This is an innovative initiative that brings the stories of the Bible out of the classroom and into the field, creating a personal and direct connection between Israeli students and the heritage, landscapes, and values of their people,” said the Education Ministry.
As part of the tours, students will trace key biblical figures and follow in their footsteps at the sites where the stories took place – while delving deeper into the biblical events and the values they embody.
The trips will focus, among other things, on:
The battle of Deborah and Barak with Sisera, described in the Book of Judges, will take place on Mount Tabor, and will deal with the bravery of the women Deborah and Jael and the song of thanksgiving that follows the victory.
The story of Lot in Sodom, from the Book of Genesis – will take place on Mount Sodom, and will deal with faith, identity, and dealing with uncertainty.
The battle of David and Goliath, from the book of 1 Samuel – will be held in the Elah Valley, and will focus on initiative, responsibility, and creativity.
The story of the spies and Israel’s wanderings in the wilderness, from the Book of the Desert – will take place on Mount Tzrur, and will deal with coping with challenge and uncertainty.
