Extensive activity to increase governance within the district’s areas, the arrest of many suspects for offenses related to incitement and illegal possession of weapons and ordnance, all as part of preparatory activity and as part of the preparations for the proper and safe observance of freedom of religion and worship this month. At the same time, surveillance and enforcement activity will be increased on traffic routes, with an emphasis on weekends, for the sake of maintaining the safety of the public using the roads.
As part of the Israel Police‘s preparations for the month of Ramadan, which will begin in the coming days, the Judea and Samaria District has been preparing in recent weeks with preparatory activity whose main goal is to increase public security, as it is.
Thus, recently, in decisive action against incitement offenses on networks, which include, among other things, calls against the State of Israel, support for terrorism and its perpetrators, and encouragement of these acts, a number of suspects for these offenses were arrested in the Yehuda sector of the Judea and Samaria District, after preparatory activity was carried out which included intelligence gathering and monitoring of their publications by intelligence elements in the Central Command of the IDF. The operational side in these cases is the responsibility of the ‘Yehuda Arrow’ unit from the Yehuda sector of the police, which carried out the arrest of the suspects for investigation.
Some of these inciters against the State of Israel, their arrest took place in the dead of night in their beds, and another suspect, while traveling in the family vehicle in the center of the Palestinian village. These arrested suspects were transferred for investigation at the police stations of the Yehuda sector, at the end of which indictments are expected against them accordingly.
Also in the area of various weapons and means of warfare that are held illegally, in many joint activities with IDF soldiers from the brigades operating in the Judea and Samaria sector, various weapons, magazines and ammunition, many weapon parts and lathes for weapon production were seized during recent weeks. For example, in an operation last weekend, a pistol and 2 ‘Carlo’ type weapons were thwarted, located and seized, alongside ammunition and magazines. In one of the cases, a weapon was hidden in the ceiling of the office of an arrested suspect. The arrested suspects were transferred for investigation in the Yehuda sector and indictments are expected against them.
In addition to this preparatory activity, which will continue in the coming days and throughout the year, the police are preparing in the Judea and Samaria District this coming Friday (2.20), and throughout the coming month – the month of Ramadan, to allow the Muslim public freedom of worship and religion, while maintaining security aspects, monitoring traffic routes, alongside enforcement of serious offenses that endanger the public using the roads.
Many police forces, alongside Border Police and IDF soldiers from Judea and Samaria, will be deployed from the morning hours throughout the district and with an emphasis on areas where worshipers arrive, to the Cave of the Patriarchs and any place required, with the aim of maintaining order and law. Traffic unit officers will be deployed on the main routes and with an emphasis on traffic routes towards Jerusalem, in order to monitor traffic flow, reduce road accidents, and decisive enforcement in cases of traffic offenses that pose a risk to human life and road users.
In addition, the police will continue to concentrate efforts on maintaining the safety of life and property in all areas of the district, thwarting crime of all types and various property offenses, with an emphasis on vehicle theft. In this regard, the police reiterate their call to drivers to refrain from leaving vehicles on the side of the road unattended, for two reasons – a real danger to other road users, and prevention of vehicle theft by criminal elements who often exploit this.
